rallicat: Canal Trip 2010

I don't yet have the option to start making bookings, but I wanted to put a preliminary feeler out for the possibility of doing a Canal Trip again next year.

I'm open to suggestions for possible location / canal, and time of year.

Early information I can offer is that it will be one boat, another long weekend trip,  sometime around May / June.

elfasi: Canal boat trip 2008 video

Sorry it took so long, here is the video I shot at last year's Spiritfurs canal boat trip. Didn't shoot an awful lot in the end, and somehow missed the fursuiting, but it's still nice to see, and you should recognise a few faces there. Here's to 2010!

rallicat: Canal Trip & News

OK, so I'm aware I haven't posted here for a while; or organized any events - apologies for that.

I'm afraid this post is to bring bad news - I won't be able to organize a Canal Trip this year.  I have struggled to see my way clear to securing a boat for this year, and a combination of higher prices for a boat, and other personal financial factors, I've come to the conclusion that it would be best to leave it for this year, and look instead to organizing a trip next year.

This should in no way be taken as me giving up on the idea of the canal trip - quite the contrary, but I must balance this against practical considerations.

When we do resume in 2010, it will likely be with one boat.

I'll still be looking to organize events this year, including walks, meets etc.  Feel free to throw any suggestions you may have my way - Spring is just around the corner, and perhaps we could do something in April, or perhaps around one of the May bank holidays.

tungro: Peak District Camping and Hillwalk

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to say this, but this weekend's hillwalk and camping twip to Hebden Bridge / Sowerby Bridge has been

This was due to lack of interest - and I'm guessing that that was mainly due to the poor timing i.e. it's just a week and a bit before EF... and some other people had other plans. In the end, there were three people who were going camping, and one person joining us for the walk only.

I'm looking to rearrange it after EF - but we'll be hitting the Autumn then. What do people think? What dates would you be able to make? Different area perhaps?

rallicat: Walk & Camping

Everyone should definitely check Tungro's last post on this group! I heartily endorse this idea, and I certainly plan to be there for at least the walk!

tungro: (no subject)

For those that want to get back to nature, here are two linked events that I think some of you might enjoy!

Further to my previous post about the hill walk, I'd like to propose the following:

CAMPING at Sowerby Bridge - Fri15-Sun17Aug

Graafen's planning on going camping at Sowerby Bridge on the 14th-16th of August, and for those that want to join him they're more than welcome to! I'm going to be camping too for that period of time.

There is no real meeting up time etc, because everyone's going to arrive from different parts of the country. But please post a response here if you're going to come camping, when you're going to arrive and how big your tent is. That way, we can keep some space around our tents for you where possible, so the furs are camping near each other.

I'm not sure exactly which camp site Graafen has in mind at this stage - will edit this post soon!

Sowerby Bridge is quite close to Hebden Bridge, so on the Saturday we can join in the other proposed event:

HILL WALK at Hebden Bridge - Sat16Aug

On the saturday, let's meet up at 12noon at Hebden Bridge railway station. From there, we can walk to the canal and start the walk as per my previous post. Please note, it is a moderately challenging walk, but we can take a bit longer about it if we like. There are some nice places along the way we can take a break at.

Depending on how we do, we should finish any time between 4pm and 5.30pm.

Trains serve Hebden Bridge station from Leeds, Burnley and Manchester Victoria quite frequently.

Calderdale Council has provided a map with where you can park in Hebden Bridge: http://www.calderdale.gov.uk/transport/parking/carparks/town.jsp?town=hebdenbridge (the station is just off the bottom right of the map - you can see "ation Road").

tungro: Proposed Hill Walk

Hi everyone! I've been mulling over the idea to go for another wander across (nearly) unspoiled countryside in the UK, getting back to nature! I've had a quick look around, and a particular walk I stumbled across seems like it may be an ideal candidate.

It's a 7.5 mile circular walk starting from Hebden Bridge. It seems to cover a lot of things people may want - part of it is along the canal, some of it is over moorland, and some through woods. It's a shortish walk, but I presume people would want to do such things as drop into a pub along the way. And it's partially along the Pennine Way!

You can find a link to the walk here: http://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/pennineway/uploads/Hebden%20Bridge%20walk.pdf

I'm suggesting a Saturday or Sunday in August. The weather should be warm then (and sunny hopefully!). It'll only really be a day thing - unless people want to go camping?

What days are good for people? I'm already excluding the 30th/31st due to EuroFurence which I know quite a number of those in this community attend...
